Governor Haley Barbour has called a special legislative session on September 27th to review land based gaming in the state of Mississippi.

In our efforts to assist the employees of the gaming industry displaced and now unemployed due to Hurricane Katrina we've started our own fund raising efforts.

The U.S. Department of Labor has created the Katrina Recovery Job Connection dedicated to connecting workers impacted by the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina with employers who want to hire them. It will also support the hiring associated with critical clean-up efforts in impacted areas. The Katrina Recovery Job Connection can be found at www.jobsearch.org/katrinajobs.
The North Palm Beach County Chamber in conjunction with the Country Club Association of Palm Beach, has developed a job bank of 250 temporary positions in the hospitality/country club industry that are available for displaced hospitality workers affected by Hurricane Katrina in North Palm Beach County. These positions include apartment type housing as part of the package. Call the job hot line at 1-866-625-5309. These positions are available now through at least April 2006. Any assistance at getting this information out to chambers in the affected area would be greatly appreciated.
